Green Kubotia Rasbora
Rasboras – Care Guide & Aquarium Companions
Rasboras are peaceful, active and colourful freshwater schooling fish that make an excellent addition to community aquariums. Known for their graceful swimming behaviour and attractive patterns, they are especially popular in planted and natural-style aquariums.
Most rasboras are best kept in groups, where they feel more secure and display their natural schooling behaviour.
Aquarium Care
Tank Size:
A minimum of around 40–60 litres is suitable for many smaller rasbora species, while larger groups and species benefit from more swimming space.
Water Temperature:
Generally 22°C – 28°C, depending on the species.
pH Range:
Approximately 5.5 – 7.5.
Aquarium Setup:
Rasboras do especially well in planted aquariums with open swimming areas. Adding driftwood, rocks and floating plants can provide security while creating a natural environment.
Good filtration and stable, clean water conditions are important for long-term health.
Feeding
Rasboras are generally omnivorous and accept a wide variety of foods, including:
-
High-quality micro pellets
-
Flake food
-
Frozen or live bloodworms
-
Brine shrimp
-
Daphnia
-
Small insect-based foods
Providing a varied diet helps improve colour, growth and overall health.
Behaviour & Grouping
Rasboras are schooling fish and should ideally be kept in groups of at least 6 or more. Larger groups often display stronger colours, increased activity and more natural schooling behaviour.
They are generally peaceful and suitable for community aquariums.
Suitable Tank Companions
Rasboras can usually be kept with:
Tetras • Corydoras • Small Loaches • Gouramis • Danios • Peaceful Barbs • Small Plecos • Shrimp • Snails and other peaceful community fish
Avoid keeping them with large, highly aggressive or predatory fish that may chase or eat smaller rasboras.
Important Note
Different rasbora species may have slightly different care requirements. Smaller varieties such as Chili Rasboras require particularly peaceful companions, while larger rasboras can be housed with a wider range of community fish.
With clean water, a suitable group size and a peaceful aquarium environment, rasboras are hardy, beautiful and highly rewarding fish for both beginners and experienced aquarium keepers.
